Global Entry and NEXUS Application Fees to Increase to $120 on October 1, 2024
Global Entry and NEXUS are two of the most popular trusted traveler programs. For what they offer, Global Entry’s $100 application fee and NEXUS’ $50 application fee have been bargains. Unfortunately, those costs are going up.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced today that starting October 1, 2024, it will cost $120 to apply for Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI. Here is a breakdown of the changes.
Program Name | Current Price | October 1, 2024 Price | % Change |
---|---|---|---|
Global Entry | $100 | $120 | 20% Increase |
NEXUS | $50 | $120 | 140% Increase |
SENTRI | $122.25 | $120 | 1.84% Decrease |
TSA PreCheck | $78 | $78 | No Change |
FAST | $50 | $50 | No Change |
From the release, it appears TSA PreCheck’s application fee will remain at $78 ($70 for online renewals). Additionally, FAST’s $50 fee will not change.
My Thoughts on the Global Entry and NEXUS Price Increases
- Global Entry and NEXUS are Still Great Deals – This is Global Entry’s first price increase since the program launched. Considering it is only going up $20 for a five-year membership, that is just a $4 yearly increase. While NEXUS’ price is going up considerably more, I always felt it was underpriced. For what they offer, both programs are still bargains.
- Both Programs Also Include TSA PreCheck – On its own, TSA PreCheck costs $78 for new members. Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI include TSA PreCheck, which is arguably the top benefit for those who frequently fly out of United States airports.
- SENTRI Price is Slight Going Down – Currently, SENTRI has an a la carte” fee structure, which essentially comes out to $122.25. As of October 1, 2024, it will simply cost $120 to apply, which is a 1.84% decrease.
- Applications For Children Under 18 May Be Free – When applying with a parent or guardian, minors under 18 are free. Additionally, it is free for applicants under 18 whose parent or guardian are currently members.
- Many Travel Credit Cards Offer Global Entry and NEXUS Credits – The best way to sign up or renew Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, and NEXUS is by paying with a credit card offering a reimbursement credit. Depending on the card, you’ll receive a credit every four to five years. For Global Entry and TSA PreCheck, The Platinum Card® from American Express, Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card are my top picks. For Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, and NEXUS, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® is a great choice. No word yet on whether the companies will increase the credit to match the new prices.
The Vacationer’s Final Thoughts
While price increases are never fun, it could be worse. Global Entry and NEXUS remain essential programs for frequent international and domestic travelers. Even with the slight increases, both programs still offer more value than the price.
