Best Amazon Prime Day Travel Deals 2022 – Luggage, Headphones, Vacations, & Other Essentials for Travelers

      Phil Dengler
      Amazon Prime Day Travel Deals

Why You Should Trust Us: Before starting The Vacationer, Phil Dengler and Eric Jones founded and ran, which was among the largest holiday deal websites. They covered the first Prime Day in 2015 extensively and were a trusted source of information among major media outlets. Now in 2022, they bring their deal and travel knowledge to inform you of the best bargains as well as how the prices compare to Black Friday and other major sale events.

Amazon Prime Day 2022 will take place from Tuesday, July 12 through Wednesday, July 13. The pandemic altered the dates in 2020 (October) and 2021 (June), but Prime Day is finally returning to July after two years. Amazon says the 48-hour sale will feature some of the lowest prices ever on select brands and products. The event officially begins at 3 a.m. EST (midnight PST) on the 12th, but early deals start on June 21.

      What is Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon’s annual two-day sale featuring discounts on thousands of items across just about every category. Travelers are in luck because Prime Day features a variety of essentials, including luggage, headphones, Kindles, clothing, and more. Additionally, numerous other stores have their own Prime Day sales, which include the same items as well as discounts on vacation packages, flights, hotels, cruises, and rental cars.

Only Prime members can participate, but it is easy to get a free 30-day trial membership or a discounted one if you are a student or educator. Amazon recently increased its monthly Prime membership cost from $12.99 to $14.99 and its annual cost from $119 to $139, so it is important to see if you are eligible for a free trial or discounted membership.

Since its inception in 2015, Prime Day has gotten longer. Initially, it was a quick 24-hour sales event. In 2017, Amazon increased it by six hours to 30 hours. It then became a 36-hour event before finally settling in at 48 hours the past three years. For 2022, the two-day sale will again be a full 48 hours. Prime Day is Amazon’s summer version of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and it often has comparable deals.

      When is Prime Day 2022?

As previously mentioned, Prime Day will take place on July 12 and July 13. It will likely be similar to the past few years when Amazon increased the sale duration to 48 hours. The sale officially begins at 3 a.m. EST (midnight PST) on July 12. For comparison purposes, here are previous Prime Day dates.

      • Prime Day 2015: July 15 (first Prime Day ever; 24 hours long)
      • Prime Day 2016: July 12 (still 24 hours long)
      • Prime Day 2017: July 11 to 12 (30 hours long)
      • Prime Day 2018: July 16 to 17 (36 hours long)
      • Prime Day 2019: July 15 to 16 (48 hours long)
      • Prime Day 2020: October 13 to 14 (pushed back due to Covid-19; 48 hours long)
      • Prime Day 2021: June 21 to 22 (48 hours long)
      • Prime Day 2022: July 12 to 13 (48 hours long)

Amazon made the official date announcement in a press release.

      How Does Prime Day Work?

Prime Day is essentially a reward for being a Prime member. Members logged into their active Amazon Prime accounts will see thousands of items discounted at special rates for the duration of the sale. Non-members can still buy the same items, but they will have to pay more. For that reason, it is essential you have an active Prime membership if you plan on making any purchases on Prime Day.

How Do I Get a Discounted Prime Membership or a Free 30-Day Trial?

New members can sign up for a free 30-day trial here. The trial gives you all the benefits of a Prime membership, including the ability to shop for special Prime Day discounts. I recommend waiting until Amazon announces the 2022 day before signing up for your trial. That will ensure your trial membership does not run out before Prime Day concludes.

What Kind of Travel Deals Can I Expect?

Prime Day features an assortment of travel deals, with some being obvious and others being not so obvious. Expect to see a variety of deals on luggage, weekend bags, travel pillows, backpacks, toiletries, packing cubes, and more. Non-obvious items include headphones, headlamps, travel apparel and accessories, travel adapters, cameras, Kindles, and much more. Prime Day will have everything you need to plan your next trip, whether it is a week at the beach or a few days in the mountains.

What Other Kind of Deals Can I Expect?

      Amazon Prime Day

Non-travel deals include televisions, video games, appliances, furniture, and much more. Prime Day is essentially the summer version of Black Friday, and it is a great time to stock up on essentials that you may need before the holiday season.

Amazon features a lot of its own products on Prime Day. Examples include Kindles, Fire tablets, Fire TVs, the Amazon Astro, the Amazon Glow, and more. If you are in the market for an Amazon device, Prime Day is the time to get it.

How Many Countries Participate in Prime Day?

Amazon says Prime Day will be available to customers in more than 20 countries. For reference, Prime Day was held in the following countries last year.

      • Australia
      • Austria
      • Belgium
      • Brazil
      • China
      • France
      • Germany
      • Italy
      • Japan
      • Luxembourg
      • Mexico
      • Netherlands
      • Portugal
      • Saudi Arabia
      • Singapore
      • Spain
      • Turkey
      • United Arab Emirates
      • United Kingdom
      • United States

We will update the full 2022 list when it is made available.

What Other Stores Have Travel Deals on Prime Day?

Numerous major retailers, including Walmart, Target, eBay, Kohl’s, and Best Buy have competing Prime Day sales every single year. Most are similar to their Black Friday sales and feature popular items such as televisions, video games, headphones, appliances, travel gear, and more. In most cases, you do not need a special membership to shop competing Prime Day sales. That is great news if you do not want to pay for a Prime membership or are not eligible for a free trial.

Is Prime Day Better Than Black Friday?

It depends. Prime Day offers better deals than Black Friday on a variety of items. Expect most Amazon devices to be cheaper on Prime Day than they were on Black Friday last year. We have seen many televisions set record-low prices on Prime Day, and we expect that trend to continue in 2022.

Since it varies by item, we will be comparing Prime Day 2022 prices to prices for the same or comparable items on Black Friday 2021. This will be done via live updates in this blog post as the deals are released. Historically, more than 50% of deals have beat comparable Black Friday prices from previous years.

      The Vacationer’s Final Thoughts

As expected, Amazon confirmed Prime Day will once again be a two-day sale event taking place July 12 through July 13. Only Prime members can participate, so ensure your membership is active or get a 30-day trial.

We expect a variety of sales on travel items and will update this post as they are released. If an item is cheaper now than it was on Black Friday, we will highlight the deal.
