The content on this page is accurate as of the posting date; however, some of our partner offers may have expired.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card 80,000-point welcome bonus offer is back! That is great news for those who are looking for a new travel credit card with a reasonable annual fee. Here is how you can earn this massive bonus.

Chase Sapphire Preferred 80,000 Point Welcome Bonus Offer

Approved applicants can earn the Chase Sapphire Preferred’s 80,000 bonus points by spending $4,000 in the first three months from account opening. That’s it! This limited-time offer will not be around forever, so I recommend applying as soon as possible.

Previously, the Chase Sapphire Preferred’s welcome bonus was 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months; The additional 20,000 points is a 33.33% increase. After this offer expires, we expect the bonus to drop back down to only 60,000 points.

Who is Eligible for The Chase Sapphire Preferred Welcome Bonus?

Applicants must meet the following conditions to be eligible for the bonus.

Additionally, you cannot earn the bonus by requesting a product change from another card.

How Much is 80,000 Bonus Points Worth?

The value depends on how you redeem it. Here are a few popular redemption methods.

      • Cash – $800
      • Travel via Chase Ultimate Rewards Portal – $1,000
      • Transfer to a Chase Partner Hotel or Airline – Up to $1,600 or More

At the minimum, the bonus is worth $800. While that is a lot of money for a $95 annual fee card, you can do better. The best way to redeem the bonus points is to transfer them to a partner airline or hotel; You can easily redeem them for a value of 2 cents per point. In certain situations, you can redeem for 5 cents per point or more.

Booking travel with points through Chase provides 25 percent more value. In other words, your redemption value is 1.25 cents per point.

Is This The Best Current Chase Sapphire Preferred Bonus Offer?

It is the best online offer. You can earn 90,000 bonus points by applying at your local Chase branch. Here is the offer, as reported by Doctor of Credit.

      • Signup for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and get 80,000 points after $4,000 in spend within the first three months, plus an additional 10,000 bonus points after spending $6,000 total on purchases made in the first 6 months. Total 90,000 points bonus possible.

Clearly, 90,000 bonus points are better than 80,000. The only issue is you must spend a total of $6,000 in the first six months to earn the full 90,000 points.

      The Vacationer Tip

If you do not think you can meet the spending requirement, I recommend applying online to take advantage of the current 80,000 bonus points offer. While Chase may eventually offer 90,000 point bonuses for online applicants, there is no guarantee it happens.

      How Good is This Bonus?

While it’s not the 100,000 points offer, 80,000 points is still a great deal. The Chase Sapphire Reserve ($550 annual fee) only offers applicants a 60,000 points bonus after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. The Chase Sapphire Preferred’s annual fee is $455 less, and you can earn 20,000 more points.

To be fair, the Chase Sapphire Reserve features a $300 annual traffic credit; For that reason, I consider its net annual fee to be only $250. The Chase Sapphire Preferred has its own annual $50 hotel credit, so I consider its net annual fee to be only $45.

Is the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card Worth It?

It absolutely is. With only a $95 annual fee, it is a great travel credit card for beginners and experts. Here are some of our favorite benefits.

      •  5x Points per dollar spent on Travel booked through Chase (excludes hotel stays qualifying for the $50 credit)
      • 2x Points on all other Travel
      • Up to $50 in statement credits each year for hotels booked through Chase

Our Chase Sapphire Preferred Benefits guide features more perks; It also details how to transfer points to airline and hotel partners, book travel through Chase with points, and more.

Is It Hard to Get Approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred?

Applicants need Good to Excellent credit, which means a credit score of 670 or higher. Additionally, your debt-to-income ratio must be good. You should not have any recent bankruptcies. Finally, make sure you are in line with the Chase 5/24 rule. That means you should not have opened five or more credit cards in the past 24 months.
